Japan’s vibrant art scene can be experienced up close on our Tokyo Art Tour. An insider guide will take you not only to important galleries, but provide depth, context and a journey through Tokyo via its art-scene. Classical galleries you’ll visit, Sakura Museum and Nezu Museum, house enviable collections of Japanese fine art, and Japanese and Asian premodern art. As the day continues you’ll see examples of traditional Japanese Ishi-no-ma-zukuri architecture at the Nezu Shrine, and walk through quintessential neighborhoods such as Yanaka where the traditional Shitamachi atmosphere can still be felt to this day. Moving towards the modern scene, we’ll visit Scai Bathhouse, whose transformation from traditional bathhouse to contemporary art gallery is a story of its own. And at the Asakura Museum of Sculpture, see the iconic pieces of Fumio Asakura, one of Japan’s most influential artists of modern times.
