  • Overnight in Thessaloniki.
Day 2 - Thessaloniki Food Tour
  • Meet your guide at a centralized location in the heart of the city to explore Thessaloniki's hidden eateries and most mouthwatering dishes.
  • Start with some Greek coffee as you get an introduction to the city through its architecture, and make your way through the winding streets.
  • Head down hidden alleys and stop at the Kapani and Modiano markets to taste fresh produce, local cheeses, sweet treats, and fresh coffee.
  • After, stop at Athonos, one of the city squares that's now a market for local craftsmen to sell their wares and traditional folk art.
  • Continue to some tavernas to taste their best offerings, from traditional pastries to mezze marvels, and learn about Greek gastronomy.
  • When the tour ends, be sure to talk to your guide about the best gems tucked down Thessaloniki's hidden streets to continue your explorations.
  • Overnight in Thessaloniki (food tasting and coffee included).
Day 3 - Free Day in Thessaloniki
  • Take a day to explore the city and tailor your experiences to your personal preferences and pace. If relaxing and taking it slow is what you're craving, check out the beaches of Halkidiki or the Pothar Baths. Or if you're still hungry for more ancient sites, head to the beautifully preserved ancient remains at Pella and Vergina.
  • If you'd rather stay in the city, try visiting the Thessaloniki Train Cemetery or do some shopping along Tsimiski Street. Art and culture buffs can head to The Museum of Cinema, The Photography Museum, or The Contemporary Art Center of Thessaloniki. And be sure to make time to sample some local cuisine at the many restaurants near the Waterfront.
  • Overnight in Thessaloniki.
Day 4 - Kerkini Lake
  • Leave the city behind and drive through the verdant peaks and valleys of Northern Greece to reach Lithotopos, the home of Kerkini Lake National Park.
  • This manmade reservoir houses wetlands that's one of Europe's most important natural habitats for birds in Europe.
  • The sapphire waters and lush fields are home to water buffalo, flamingoes, cormorants, eels, and more and a fairytale setting.
  • After a guided tour, enjoy coffee at a traditional farm and learn about agriculture in the area before continuing to Vironia, a historic village nearby.
  • Enjoy lunch at a taverna that once housed a military command center during the Second Balkan War; it's where a peace treaty that doubled the country was signed.
  • After lunch, the tour has been perfectly timed so that you get to enjoy panoramic views at the golden hour on your drive back to Thessaloniki.
  • Overnight in Thessaloniki.

Optional Add-onsFor an additional fee, you can add a horseback ride that takes you along the dam of this beautiful area with a local guide.

Day 5 - Pella & Vergina
  • Today you will go on a magical journey to the past visiting Pella, the birthplace of Alexander the Great, and the ancient capital of the Macedonian Kingdom, Vergina.
  • Head to Pella's museum, see archeological remnants of its ancient market, ancient artifacts, and beautiful mosaics depicting the Abduction of Helen and the Battle of the Amazons.
  • Learn about Alexander the Great's childhood and his tutelage under Aristoteles.
  • Then head to Vergina to see the UNESCO World Heritage site of Aigai. You will see the Golden Larnax - the urn containing the ashes of Alexander the Great's father, Phillip II. Learn about the ancient history of Macedonia and more fascinating artifacts at the site.
  • Your excursion concludes with a delicious lunch of traditional dishes at a classic local taverna.
  • Return to Thessaloniki

Day 6 - Meteora by Train
  • Take a train to one of Northern Greece's most magical and mystical sites, the mountain monasteries of Meteora, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • This isolated hideaway of towering and rugged mountains wreathed in green growth was long an escape for those avoiding religious persecution.
  • Along with 6 monasteries that dot the hills, carved from the very stones themselves, the area also houses hermit caves and personal quarters high in the sky.
  • Admire panoramic views of the sweeping valleys and craggy peaks before visiting 3 of the still-operational monasteries with your guide.
  • You'll also dive into the Hermit Caves of Badova, some of the most famous in the area, and learn the tragic stories behind them.
  • As you walk the trails through the mountains, you'll see why so many holy men found this to be the place where they connected deeply with their spirituality.
  • Take the train to return to Thessaloniki, passing through the stunning landscapes of this otherworldly terrain.
  • Overnight in Thessaloniki.
Day 7 - Mount Olympus & Dion
  • Meet your expert guide, an archaeologist and historian, and then make your way to ancient Dion, an archaeological site and ancient village near Mount Olympus.
  • Pass through the excavation site, traveling along the same roads as the ancient Greeks, and admire statues, mosaics, and artifacts along the way.
  • Stop at a well-preserved theater to hear the acoustics that modern actors still take advantage of, and then make your way to the museum.
  • Here you'll see the Hydravlis, a unique wind instrument, and a detailed mosaic of the Villa of Dionysus.
  • Explore the slopes and gorges that surround Mount Olympus, the traditional seat of many Greek deities, and hike through the gorge of the Enipeas River.
  • The path winds across the banks of the river and wooden bridges just above the picturesque village of Litochoro.
  • You'll end the day there, enjoying lunch in a local restaurant at the foot of Mount Olympus itself before returning to Thessaloniki.
